Happy Hump Day

Happy Hump Day everyone! This week the following things put a smile on my face:

1) Celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary.  On Thursday Brandon and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with dinner at Louisiana Lagniappe.  But before dinner, because I'm impatient, we exchanged gifts.

So, it looks like frozen concoctions and boiled crawfish will soon be had at our house!

2) On Friday when I came home from work Brandon had this huge smile on his face and was so excited for me to come check out the back yard to see this:

We had recently bought a bunch of peaches at Colandros and he was so interested in the pit and how peaches grow, did a little internet research and decided to plant a pit to grow a peach tree.  Well, two-three weeks later nothing happened with his peach pit, so he went to Cleggs and just bought a peach tree.  He (and Millie) dug a hole in the back yard planted it and he is hopeful to have our own peaches next year! He was so proud of himself!

3) Spending time with Olivia on Saturday.  Brandon and I had lunch at my mom's on Saturday and my three year old niece, Olivia was there and she just cracked me up.  She's such a princess and a mess at the same time.  At one point, I looked over to find her with her finger in Millie's nose! I stopped her and asked her what exactly she was doing and she pointed out that she was getting Millie's booger.

As you can see the inside of Millie's left nostril is pink...when we got her, her nose was mostly pink and was so cute but the vet told us it probably wouldn't stay that way.  Well, most of it changed black except that one little part and Olivia was convinced it was a booger and was literally digging in Millie's nose.  I couldn't believe Millie let her get away with it.

4) Millie playing with a new stick.  We had some pretty bad weather recently and one of our neighbor's trees lost a pretty big limb, so I'm using the term stick lightly.  Millie loves chewing on sticks, catching sticks, running with sticks...sticks are her favorite past time.  So, imagine my surprise when I come out to the back yard today to see her with this in her mouth!

Granted it was a little big for her to manage on her own but Brandon was helping her out!

Happy Hump Day y'all...this week the following things put a smile on my face.

1) A day off of work...it is truly amazing what you can accomplish with one day off of work.  If only I could get away with a four day work week every week.  I was off yesterday and check out all the things I accomplished:

• Annual doctor visit
• Picked up raffle tickets (which I'm selling...$5 for a chance to win a Mercedes!)
• Bought dog food
• Wrapped Brandon's anniversary gift
• Went to a three hour continuing education class
• Took Millie to the vet to have her blood drawn for allergy testing
• Picked up a prescription at the pharmacy AND
• Cooked dinner!

Isn't that something!  As a side note, if anyone is interested in buying a raffle ticket(s), the drawing is in October and you don't need to be present to win!

2) Visit from out of town guests...our friends the Kelly's are coming through town tonight and will be spending the night on their way to a wedding in Alabama.  Even though it is just one night, it's always nice to catch up since we haven't seen them since football season ended.

3) My new background...aren't the swimsuits just perfect for the summer season.  I love them, every time I look at the blog, I smile!

3)Jake and Vienna broke up!  I know this is really shallow and lame but for those of you who are not familiar with my Bachelor obsession, now you know.  Pretty much everyone in American did not care for Vienna but he chose her anyway and it makes me smile that they broke up...check out the story at People Magazine here.

Happy Hump Day

Happy Hump Day y'all...this week the following things put a smile on my face:

1) Avenue Q - my friend Michelle and I went to New Orleans on Friday night to see Avenue Q at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.  Avenue Q is about a young college graduate who moves to New York City with big dreams but soon learns some valuable adult life lessons.  Most of the characters are puppets, so I'm comparing it to a Sesame Street for adults.  Some of the valuable adult life lessons include: "everyone's a little racist", "what do you do with a BA in English", "the Internet is for porn" and "I wish I could go back to college".  It was so funny and I laughed out loud the whole time.

2) Lazy weekend - I finally accomplished my goal for a lazy weekend last week.  I spent the entire day on Saturday in my pj's on the couch....didn't even pretend to want to get up and be productive.  I got out of bed,  moved to the couch and stayed there until it was time to go back to bed and it was AWESOME! You know, sometimes you just need some quality time with the sofa!

3) Half price Mochasippi - I discovered yesterday that CC's at work is offering half price Mochasippis every afternoon to help "beat the heat".  I heard what I thought was a bad rumor about it at lunch time then one of my fabulous co-workers texted me to tell me it was true...so down I go to get my half-price mochasippi!  It made my day.

I stumbled across this video on facebook and had to post it here.  It is all the things I love about my hometown...LSU, our beautiful state capitol buildings, Spanishtown Mardi Gras, Live After Five, ferns on the front porch, football, Third Street, seafood and of course Mike the Tiger.  I remember in college I couldn't wait to get out of town and was so over Baton Rouge...even joked about the "big BR" with friends and how lame it was.  But now I can't imagine living anywhere else and just wanted to share the video to remind you all about how fabulous our city is, although we do have our share of issues, I love BR!

Happy Hump Day

Happy Hump Day everyone...this week the following things made me smile:

1) Abadie Family Weekend - Friday night we went to Olive Garden for Brandon's mother's birthday. Brandon's brother called and asked us to get there early to wait for a table of NINE! He couldn't figure out who all was coming until his brother reminded him that there family alone is five people.  On Sunday Brandon's twin nieces has their dance recital at the River Center, although we weren't officially invited...the girls asked us to come at dinner on Friday night so we crashed. It was fun to see the girls dance.

2) LSU Baseball - We watched the game on Saturday at our neighbor, Grant's house, grilled and had a general good time. Even though I didn't make it to the end of the game, it was nice to have a Tiger win.  Sunday was a little different...we again grilled at our other neighbors house, Trent and Julie but this time didn't come up with a win.  My neighbor, Julie cracked me up saying she was kinda okay that we didn't win because it wouldn't give Trent an excuse to drink on Sunday afternoons anymore. The good news out of Sunday was we decided to start a supper club, and that makes me really happy.  Supper Club sounds like fun!

3) Last Comic Standing - we love this show.  If you aren't familiar with this show, it is kind of like American Idol for stand up comedians and I love stand up comedy.  There's nothing better than laughing out loud for a full hour, I love to laugh.  If you haven't checked it out and you like to laugh, you should certainly check it out.

I'll be having a grand time at Girls Night tonight and heading to New Orleans to see Avenue Q on Friday night with a friend then truly plan to spend the rest of this weekend on the couch!!

Happy Hump Day

Happy hump day y'all...I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day and remembered what we celebrate for.  This week was pretty chill until the weekend which will be the bulk of this edition of Happy Hump Day. So, here it goes...this week the following things made my smile:

1)Millie...she was so funny playing with her new tennis ball this week.  I fed her while she was playing with her tennis ball and she was so confused as to how to proceed, it was as if I could see the wheels turning in her head.  She didn't want to put the tennis ball down because she was having so much fun, but she was really excited to eat dinner, so what's a girl to do?  Here's what she worked out:

Tennis ball in her bowl with her food and she just ate around the tennis ball until she was finished, picked up the tennis ball and resumed her play.  She's such a funny little dog!

2) The first annual Bayou Country Superfest in Tiger Stadium was this weekend and although I was dreading it I actually enjoyed myself.  We bought the tickets ages ago and I was really excited when we bought them but when it came down to it the thought of spending most of the weekend in the heat with 40,000 other people didn't appeal to me and to add to that Brandon had to work on Saturday and couldn't even go.  The headline on Saturday was Taylor Swift, so I brought my niece with me because what 10 year old doesn't like Taylor Swift?!? So we went and enjoyed ourselves, only got a little wet from the rain and also got to see Kelli Pickler and Keith Urban, not too bad.

On Sunday, Brandon and I went together and the weather was pretty good after the early afternoon rain.  Sundays line up included Jason Aldean, Brooks and Dunn and Kenny Chesney.  Kenny brought a few special guests on stage including Uncle Kracker, Les Miles and Sean Payton with the Lombardi trophy which was pretty cool...the whole stadium was screaming "Who Dat!" when he came out.  It was funny because Kenny Chesney just says "hey look what I got" and turns around with the Superbowl trophy in his hand!

Both nights they ended the show with fireworks and it was just a lot of fun spending time in Tiger Stadium (including beer and margaritas, a girl could get use to that!) and hanging out with friends.

3) Which leads me to my next item...spending time with friends.  We celebrated our friend Beau's birthday this week at DiGuilio Brothers.  It's always nice to enjoy dinner with friends and celebrating birthdays.  Carrie Madge surprised him with a cake after dinner, it was good food and good friends.

Also, we ran into another couple friend of ours at the concert who had seats near ours.  They had some empty seats around so we sat with them and enjoyed the concert with friends on Sunday.

Happy Hump Day

Obviously our lives have been pretty boring lately since my only recent posts have been Happy Hump Day, I guess it's a good thing it's a regular feature or those of you who are reading would miss me!  So, here it goes...for this weeks edition, I decided to share some of the wonderful things I've learned from reading Gretchen Rubin's "The Happiness Project".

"Act the way you want to feel"

This is one of Rubin's twelve commandments of happiness and I believe it is true, in fact I tested it again on Monday.  I was so exhausted on Monday after not much of a weekend and did not want to go to work, let alone be productive.  I decided to act the way I want to feel...energized.  I put on a smile and went about my day acting as though I was not so tired and what do you know, by the time I'd had lunch I actually had a good bit of energy.  Granted that could have been because the day was almost over and I'd eaten but either way...it worked!

"Do what ought to be done and do it now"

These are so simple and yet sometimes so difficult...the simplest things such as doing the dishes after dinner, making the bed when get out of it, putting the clothes up after folding them.  All of those things I dread and don't want to do them, even though they "ought to be done".  I've learned if you just do them and do them now, they are done and you don't have to dread them anymore and that makes me happy.

"People actually prefer that you buy wedding gifts off of their registry."

This is one of Rubin's secrets of adulthood (all of which bring a smile to my face) and this one has hit close to home recently as I have two wedding gifts to buy for weddings that were weeks ago.  I thought long and hard about a gift then remembered one of the items we received that was not on our registry.  One of Brandon's co-workers gave us two big, bright yellow bath towels that were nothing close to what we had registered for.  When we opened them we just laughed and assumed she must have bought off the wrong registry.  Remembering that made me decide to stick to the registries...so Bed Bath & Beyond and Pottery Barn here I come!

Brandon and I gave each other tickets to the Bayou Country Superfest for Valentine's Day and I can hardly believe it is already here.  It turns out he is working on Saturday so I plan on bringing my niece on Saturday because what 10 year old girl is not obsessed with Taylor Swift.  Brandon and I will go together on Sunday for Kenny Chesney.  I'm sure I'll have plenty of pics to post.
