Happy Hump Day

Happy hump day everybody! This week the following things put a smile on my face:

1) Hollydays - this weekend was the annual Junior League Hollydays - Shopping For a Cause Event and while I usually go each year, this was my first year as a member of Junior League. My friend Michelle and I went early on Saturday morning to get some shopping in before my shift, then I worked a four hour shift and was totally exhausted. The good news is that made me too tired to shop anymore so I didn't spend much money.

2) All of the baby furniture has arrived - as of Friday we have all of our baby furniture here and put together! The final piece was back ordered but it arrived and Brandon put it in place. We are still waiting on the crib conversion kit but figured it would be a while until we needed that. Here's a pic of the final piece...the changing table topper. It goes on top of the dresser then when she doesn't need it anymore, it just comes off and voila a regular dresser, isn't it great?

3) Brandon - painted the nursery and has all the furniture together, I just can't decide how to arrange it in the room now. We were in the baby's room Monday night and I'm having him move the crib here, the nightstand here, no put the crib back, try the side table over there, what about the rocking chair over there, etc. and after a while of tolerating it, he decided we needed curtains and that would make everything fit. It cracked me up! I had read in What To Expect When Expecting that this week he may be able to hear the baby's heartbeat, so after having him rearrange the furniture umpteen times, we sat in the baby's room with his head on my tummy for a while trying to hear her heartbeat. It was so cute because he'd sit there with his ear to my belly plugging his other ear so he could hear better but only heard her moving around in there. Here's a picture of the crib...just for fun!

I had my 26 week appointment yesterday at the ob/gyn and everything is going well. I'm measuring perfectly which means she is growing at just the right pace, not too big and not too small and her heartbeat was in the 156-157 range which is perfect too, of course. I did not pass my first glucose tolerance test and have to go back next week for the three week test, which kind of stinks but is what I expected. My mom is a diabetic and my sister had gestational diabetes with both of her babies. We also have our first baby shower this weekend and I'm very excited about it too.

Hope you all have a happy hump day and may you find what puts a smile on your face this week!

Happy Hump Day

Happy hump day everyone...here's what put a smile on my face this week:

1) Nursery is painted - when I came home from work on Friday, imagine the smile on my face to find Brandon had painted the baby's room! I was so excited I couldn't believe he got it done while I was working...such a relief because I didn't feel obligated to help. He rolled the walls and only had the trim work to complete by the time I got home but had run out of paint. He was eager to put the crib together last night but I just didn't have the energy...maybe this weekend.

2) Bowl For A Cure - On Sunday I was so blessed to have some of our friends join us at Don Carter's All Star Lanes for the first annual Bowl For A Cure. For those of you who aren't aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and is a cause that is very important to me. This was the first year our local Komen affiliate held the Bowl For A Cure and I couldn't think of a better reason to get the old bowing team together. Once known as the "Bunch of Spares" team we use to participate in a Monday night bowling league but we all started having babies and now have no time/energy for weekly bowling. I'm so thankful for great friends that support a great cause with us!

Bunch of Spares (+ a few extra team members)

3) Christmas Club - I got my check today...and there is nothing better than unexpected money in the middle of October. I just put a little each pay period into the Christmas Club at the Credit Union at work and they hold onto it (earning a wee bit of interest) until October when they give it to me to spend on Christmas presents, it's genius! I really felt like I'd won the lottery today when I went to the Credit Union, for other business, and she asked if I wanted my Christmas Club check...well yes I do! The best part is, it is just in time for Hollydays and the Oak Alley Fall Arts and Crafts Festival this weekend, so now I have money to spend!

Happy Hump Day to each and every one of you, may you find what makes you smile this week!

Happy Hump Day

Happy hump day everyone...I've been in such a mood lately, it was a bit of a challenge to come up with some things that made me smile this week, but of course there's always something to smile about, so here it goes. This week the following put a smile on my face:

1) Denham Springs Antique Village Fall Festival - on Saturday I went to The Glass Slipper, a shoe store in the Denham Springs Antique Village to work a shift selling raffle tickets for Junior League, I had no clue it was the Fall Festival. There were booths set up in the street selling arts and crafts, jewelry, baby clothes and the like, food carts, live music...a real live festival and I didn't even know it. One of the vendors was selling fried Oreo cookies...never seen that before and somehow was able to resist. By the time my four hour shift was over I was beyond hungry and needed a meal so skipped the fried oreos. I only "window shopped" at most of the booths and stores but did find a purchase at the Bees Knees. I picked up a Wubba Nub for the baby, it is so cute. I got the tabby kitty for newborns and love it because it looks like a baby Mike the Tiger, the lady at the store even suggested tying a purple and gold ribbon around it's neck, but being the paranoid freak that I am I'd worry my baby would strangulate her self with the ribbons!

2) Ebay - I know this is strange but I'm super excited to have sold our old Halloween costumes on Ebay this week! A few years ago, Brandon and I went to a Halloween Party in the French Quarter and spent a good bit of money on our costumes, we went as a Brick House and a Brick Layer, while our costumes were a big hit, I've always felt a little guilty about spending $100 on costumes that we've never worn again. Well, thank you Ebay! I sold them for half the price we paid but none the less made a quick $50 this week! Here's a pic of us in our costumes...back in the day of course!

3) Cross-stitching - I know I sound like an old lady, but I find cross-stitching to be so relaxing and I love the feeling of just vegging out while creating something. I'm working on a birth record for the baby (of course!) and can't wait to finish it. Often times, the novelty wears off but I'm thinking since this one is for my own baby, I'll be so excited about the prospect of her arrival, it will continue to be enjoyable. I haven't cross-stitched since my youngest niece was born, I did her birth record four years ago. Here's a sneak peak of what I've completed so far...it's a little wrinkly from working on it, but you get the idea.

Happy hump day to you, may you find what makes you smile this week!

Happy Hump Day

Happy hump day everybody...here are a few things that put a smile on my face this week:

1) Baby clothes - so I swore I would only spend $50 a paycheck on baby clothes but now that we've found out it's a girl it is almost impossible not to buy everything I see. One of my recent finds that I'm totally smitten with is the dress below. I found it on sale at Kelly's Kids and thought it was so cute and would be perfect for crawfish boils next summer! It also has coordinating ribbons that tie at the shoulders but I took them off for now.

Then I realized it was reversible and thought...OMG how can I not order this, it's two dresses in one!
It wasn't until after it arrived and I checked it out did I realize it's actually three dresses in one because the button tab on the blue side with the crawfish (well, they call them lobsters, but I'm calling them crawfish) reverses as well and has firecrackers on it...perfect for 4th of July!

Seriously, have you ever seen anything as cute at that?!?! I was so happy with my purchase! I also bought her Easter outfit already (you can see it in the background of the first picture), the cutest pink bubble outfit with chocolate bunnies smocked across the collar. I love it too!!! I already told Brandon, this little girl is going to bankrupt us for sure!

2) My belly - for the first time on Monday, I had a perfect stranger ask me when my baby is due which made me so happy because this means I'm pass the "you look like you've had too many cheeseburgers" stage and I really look pregnant now. I've been trying to get Brandon to take a picture of my expanding waist line on a weekly basis but he's hard to tie down. Last week I did get him to take a pic...here it is, but be warned, I'm a beast! Check out how wide my nose it already.

Me at 22 weeks pregnant

That's not the funny part though...the funny part is Brandon said look at my belly and I took a picture of his too. Check this out!

3) An LSU victory - even though it wasn't pretty, it was a win and the Tigers being 4-0 puts a smile on any LSU fan's face. It was a late game, 8pm kickoff and I surprisingly made it the whole game and was on my feet, jumping up and down until the very end. I hope they can keep squeezing them out but sure wish they looked better.

4) Spending time with Amanda - My friend Amanda came into town on Sunday for a work conference this week and we had a late lunch at Zoes Kitchen (yum!) and did some shopping at Towne Center. We don't get to see each other as often as we like, so it's always great to get in a visit.

5) Cooler weather - with lows in the 60's and highs in the 80's this week, there is a lot to smile about in southern Louisiana! The weather has been so awesome, I hope the fall-like temps stay for a while because a girl (especially a pregnant girl!) could sure get use to it.

Happy hump day y'all...may you find what puts a smile on your face this week!

Happy Hump Day

Happy hump day everyone...we had a very busy week and have been running crazy for days it seems like but still wanted to make the time to blog. Here's what put a smile on my face this week:

1) Sunday afternoon in New Orleans with my friends Kevin and Michelle - we happened upon a dog bakery on Royal Street and of course I had to stop in to get a treat for Millie. I ended up getting her a Saints football cookie for her to enjoy during the Saints on Monday Night Football. It was fun to watch her try to eat it. First, she licked it until most of the carob was off. Then I held it for her so she could take a bite out of it, which she did until it was all gone, every last crumb. It was pretty cute!

Millie sitting pretty for a quick pic before diving into her cookie

2) So You Think You Can Dance on Sunday at UNO Lakefront Arena - Michelle and I went to see the first show of the national tour from season 8 and it was fabulous! I took umpteen pictures but haven't loaded them from my camera yet. It cracked me up how many people asked if we were going to audition when I told them where we were going, by the end of the week I just started telling people, yes I'm auditioning and will be doing a belly dance. We had a nice time in the Quarter the afternoon, yummy dinner at Mona Lisa on Royal Street and loved the show...thanks Michelle for a great day!

3) Glee! - the season premiere last night was AWESOME. I love this show and it always makes me smile, about 45 minutes into the show I looked at Brandon and said "I don't want it to end!" He laughed at me and pointed out it will come on again next week. Speaking of...next week is the Britney Spears special!! So excited, even if you're not a Glee fan, if you like Britney Spears, I'd say it's a must see.

Happy hump day everyone...may you find what makes you smile this week!

Happy Hump Day

Happy hump day everybody...this weeks edition will be baby filled, as I imagine most of my post will be from now on, so sorry! The following things put a smile on my face this week.

1) We picked out the bedding for the baby's room and I'm loving it more and more everyday. I'll be honest I was truly surprised to find out we were having a girl as so many people had convinced me it was a boy (Cheli! Brooke!) but low and behold...it's a girl and I'm warming up to the ideas of pinks and flowers and cutesty stuff. I already bought two new outfits and ordered the accent pillow to help in picking out wall colors. The pillow arrived this week and here it is...

Pottery Barn Kids Penelope bedding

2) We also picked out the paint color this week...we are getting so much done now that we know it's a girl. Brandon wanted to paint the room yellow and never really has an option on much so I was totally pleased to paint to room whatever color he wanted. We went to Lowe's and bought a couple of samples and decided on Cocoa Butter which cracks me up since that's exactly what I've been slathering in my belly daily in a futile attempt to avoid stretch marks!

Cocoa butter is the one in the middle

3) The new book I'm reading..."Are you there Vodka? It's me, Chelsea" by Chelsea Handler makes me laugh out loud every time I read even one page. Brandon keeps asking me what's so funny and I tell you what...Chelsea Handler cracks me up. She has this crazy sense of humor that I love and although some may find it insulting, I find it hilarious. Check it out if you've got bad taste like I do!

Hope everyone has a happy hump day, may you find what makes you smile this week!

Happy Hump Day

Happy Hump Day everyone, this week the following things put a smile on my face:

1) Olivia's 4th birthday party was this weekend and she has a Fancy Nancy party with dress up, tea and candy bar. All the little girls were so cute prancing around in their dress up. It made me laugh out loud when it was time to open gifts because they are still young enough to want to help open gifts, so cute!

2) Taking Millie to the beach for her first time...she did not like it. Apparently the wind blowing on her bottom was a foreign and awkward feeling because every time the wind would blow, which is kind of often on the beach, she would sit or crouch down low to keep the wind from blowing under her. It cracked me up. Brandon tried to get her to go into the water and she wasn't really interested in that either, she just kept trying to get low to the ground. It was funny!

3) Sugar and spice and all things nice...20 week sonogram today and surprise it's a girl! I jokingly say surprise because that's all we have in our family. Everything went well today, all her measurements are great, no spina bifida, no clef palate, all ten fingers and toes and four chambers in a heart beating at 165 beats per minute. She weighs 12 ounces and based on calculations would be due on January 26th but she's not changing our due date, so that's still set at January 22nd.
Happy hump day to you and yours...may you find what makes you smile this week!
